AP LAWCET (Andhra Pradesh Law Common Entrance Test) is the state entrance exam for admission to three-year and five-year LLB programs in law colleges across Andhra Pradesh. It is held on behalf of the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education (APSCHE) by a state university chosen each year; for the 2026 cycle, that was Sri Padmavati Mahila Visvavidyalayam, Tirupati.

The test is computer-based, with 120 questions in 90 minutes and no negative marking. You need 35% to qualify for a rank, although SC and ST candidates have no minimum. This guide focuses on the five-year LLB route for Class 12 students; graduates take the same exam format for the three-year LLB.

What is AP LAWCET?

AP LAWCET is the common gateway to law colleges in Andhra Pradesh, including university colleges and private affiliated colleges. The same test is used for the three-year LLB (for graduates) and the five-year integrated LLB (for Class 12 students), with separate ranks for each.

The conducting university changes from year to year, but the website, pattern and admission process stay under APSCHE. After the result, seats are filled through online counseling with web options.

AP LAWCET is separate from TS LAWCET, which is run for law colleges in Telangana. If you want seats in both states, you need to apply for both exams.

AP LAWCET eligibility

For the five-year LLB, the AP LAWCET eligibility rules in the 2026 instruction booklet are:

  • You must have passed the two-year Intermediate (10+2) exam or an equivalent qualification.
  • You need at least 45% aggregate marks if you are in the general category, 42% for BC candidates, and 40% for SC and ST candidates.
  • You must be an Indian national and meet the local or non-local status rules of Andhra Pradesh.
  • Students appearing for the final Intermediate exam can take the test, but must pass with the required marks before counseling.
  • Candidates whose basic qualification is ITI are not eligible.

AP LAWCET exam pattern

The AP LAWCET exam pattern has three parts. Half the paper is Part C, which tests aptitude for law. Questions are objective, including multiple choice and match-the-following, with four options each.

AP LAWCET marking scheme and qualifying marks

  • +1 mark for each correct answer.
  • No negative marking for wrong answers.
  • Qualifying mark is 35%, which is 42 out of 120.
  • SC and ST candidates have no minimum qualifying mark for ranking.
  • If scores tie, the marks in Part C are compared first, then Part B. Remaining ties are resolved by age at the time of admission.

AP LAWCET syllabus

  • General Knowledge and Mental Ability: Indian history, geography, polity and economy, general science, and reasoning questions such as series, analogies, coding and simple puzzles.
  • Current Affairs: important national and international events, Andhra Pradesh news, government schemes, awards, sports and appointments, mostly from the year before the exam.
  • Aptitude for the Study of Law: basic legal concepts and terms, the Indian Constitution, legal maxims, questions that apply a legal principle to facts, and awareness of important laws and landmark judgments.

AP LAWCET result and counseling

The conducting university releases preliminary answer keys, takes objections, and then publishes the result with ranks, usually a few weeks after the exam. Ranks are given separately for three-year and five-year LLB candidates.

Admission runs through online counseling managed by APSCHE. You register, pay the processing fee, get your certificates verified, exercise web options for colleges, and receive a seat allotment based on rank, category and local area rules. You then report to the allotted college with original documents.

How to prepare for AP LAWCET

You have 90 minutes for 120 questions, or 45 seconds each, and there is no penalty for wrong answers. Speed matters, and every question should get an answer.

  • Put most of your effort into Part C. It carries 60 marks and is also the first tie-breaker.
  • Learn common legal terms, legal maxims and key Articles of the Constitution, then practice principle-and-facts questions.
  • Keep current affairs notes for the past year, including Andhra Pradesh-specific news and schemes.
  • For Part A, revise Class 10 social studies and general science and practice basic reasoning questions.
  • Solve previous AP LAWCET papers and take timed 90-minute mocks. Make sure you mark an answer for every question before time runs out. You can log mock scores and preparation status in Kosuki.
  • Decide early whether to take the paper in English or Telugu, and practice in that language.

How to apply for AP LAWCET
