IPU CET is the Common Entrance Test of Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (GGSIPU) in Delhi. The university uses it to admit students to programs that are not filled through national exams, such as BBA, BCA, B.Ed and, as a fallback, MBA and MCA, across its own schools and a large network of affiliated colleges in Delhi NCR.

Each IPU CET paper has 100 multiple-choice questions in 150 minutes, with plus 4 for a right answer and minus 1 for a wrong one. What is IPU CET?

GGSIPU is a state university of the Delhi government with dozens of affiliated institutes. It runs one application process each year, and for each program the admission brochure names the route: a national test or the university’s own CET.

Popular programs through the IPU CET route include BBA, BCA, B.Ed, B.Tech in biotechnology and lateral entry B.Tech. For MBA and MCA, the university first uses national scores such as CAT, CMAT or NIMCET, and then fills remaining seats using IPU CET. B.Tech uses JEE Main, the five-year law programs use CLAT, and medical programs use NEET. Some undergraduate programs also accept CUET UG. Always check the current brochure, because routes can change from year to year.

IPU CET eligibility

Each program has its own eligibility in the admission brochure. Read it for your exact course code before paying the fee. Common points include:

Undergraduate programs need Class 12 from a recognized board, with minimum marks and subjects set per program
BCA and some science programs ask for mathematics or computer science in Class 12
Postgraduate programs need a relevant bachelor’s degree with minimum marks
Students appearing in their qualifying exam can apply, subject to passing by the deadline
Some programs have an age limit in the brochure, so confirm it for your course
Delhi region candidates get a large share of seats in many programs under the university’s quota rules

IPU CET exam pattern

All IPU CET papers share the same basic format: 100 questions in 150 minutes, English only. What changes is the subject mix. Here is the BBA paper as an example, since it is one of the most taken.

IPU CET marking scheme

The scheme is the same for every paper. You get 90 seconds per question on average, which is more generous than many entrance tests.

Four wrong answers wipe out one right answer, so accuracy decides ranks among close candidates. Since the paper is not very long for the time given, you usually have time to review your answers if you pace yourself.

IPU CET syllabus

The syllabus follows the subject weightage in each paper. For the main papers, expect:

BBA: English grammar and reading, current affairs and static general knowledge, logical reasoning, and business and communication aptitude
BCA: usually mathematics, computer awareness, general awareness and English; confirm the sections in the official syllabus
B.Tech biotechnology: physics and chemistry, mathematics or biology or biotechnology, plus general awareness and English
MBA and MCA: quantitative ability, reasoning, English and general awareness, with mathematics and computer basics for MCA
B.Ed: teaching aptitude, general awareness, reasoning and language

IPU CET result, ranks and counseling

The university publishes a rank list for each program. The rank decides your turn in counseling, not just whether you pass.

Counseling is online. You register for counseling, pay the counseling fee, fill choices of institutes and get seats round by round. Choosing colleges well matters as much as your rank, since quality varies a lot across affiliated institutes. Check placement records, faculty and location before locking choices.

Seats are also split by region. A share of seats in many programs is kept for candidates from the Delhi region, with the rest open to all. Read the quota rules in the brochure to understand where you compete.

How to prepare for IPU CET

IPU CET papers are direct and moderately difficult. With 150 minutes for 100 questions, careful reading matters more than raw speed.

Download the syllabus for your course code and match your study time to the section weights
For BBA, treat all four sections equally; each one is a quarter of the paper
For BCA, check the section weights in the syllabus and give mathematics and computer awareness steady practice
Read a newspaper daily and keep short notes for general awareness questions
Solve previous IPU CET papers to learn the level and common question types
Take full mocks on OMR sheets if your paper is pen-and-paper, so bubbling time does not surprise you
At minus 1 for a wrong answer, leave questions where you cannot remove any option
Log your mock scores in Kosuki to see section-wise progress over time

Check the program code and whether it uses IPU CET or a national test
Register on the admissions portal and fill in your details
Choose the CET papers you want and pay the fee for each
Upload your photograph and signature and save the confirmation
Download the admit card, take the test, then register for counseling after the result

Is there negative marking in IPU CET?

Yes. A correct answer earns 4 marks and a wrong answer loses 1 mark. Unanswered questions score zero.

How many questions are there in IPU CET?

Each IPU CET paper has 100 multiple-choice questions to be answered in 150 minutes, for a maximum of 400 marks.

Is IPU B.Tech admission through IPU CET?

No. B.Tech at GGSIPU is filled through JEE Main. IPU CET is used for B.Tech biotechnology and lateral entry B.Tech.

Is IPU CET conducted online or offline?

Reports for recent cycles differ: many papers, such as BBA, have been held in pen-and-paper mode on OMR sheets, while some have been computer-based. Your admit card confirms the mode for your paper.

Can I get MBA admission at IPU through IPU CET?

Yes, but IPU first fills MBA seats using national scores such as CAT and CMAT. Remaining seats are then filled using IPU CET.

Which colleges accept the IPU CET score?

The university’s own schools and its affiliated colleges across Delhi NCR admit students through IPU CET ranks in centralized counseling.
