NPAT (NMIMS Programs After Twelfth) is the entrance test that SVKM’s NMIMS uses for admission to its undergraduate programs. It leads to degrees such as BBA, B.Com, BSc Finance, BSc Economics and BA Liberal Arts at NMIMS campuses in Mumbai, Navi Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Indore, Chandigarh and other cities.

The test is computer-based, with 120 multiple-choice questions in 100 minutes and no negative marking. NMIMS allows one main attempt and up to two retakes in a cycle, and your best score is used for the merit list.

What is NPAT?

NPAT is a single entrance test for a group of NMIMS undergraduate programs in commerce, management, economics, liberal arts and branding. You choose your programs and campuses in one application, and NMIMS prepares a merit list for each one.

Unlike exams held on one fixed date, NPAT runs over a testing window. You pick a date, time slot and center that suit you, and you can retake the test to improve your score.

NPAT is used only by NMIMS. It is not accepted by other universities, so plan it alongside other entrance tests such as CUET UG, Symbiosis SET or Christ University’s test if you are applying widely.

NPAT eligibility

NPAT eligibility is set program by program, so read the rules for each program you want to choose.

You must have passed or be appearing for Class 12 (or equivalent) from a recognized board such as CBSE, ICSE, IB or a state board.
Most programs ask for at least 50% aggregate marks in Class 12. Some programs set a higher bar.
A few programs, such as finance and economics programs, may require Mathematics or Statistics in Class 12.
Programs may set an upper age limit; check the program page before applying.
Students appearing for Class 12 can take NPAT, but admission depends on meeting the marks requirement when results come out.

The NPAT exam pattern has three equal sections. There are no sectional time limits, so you can move between sections freely within the 100 minutes. That works out to 50 seconds per question on average.

NPAT marking scheme

+1 mark for every correct answer.
No negative marking for wrong answers.
No marks for unattempted questions.
All questions are multiple choice with four options.
If you take more than one attempt, NMIMS considers your highest score.

NPAT syllabus

NMIMS describes NPAT as an aptitude test, not a test of Class 12 subject knowledge. The questions sit at roughly Class 10 difficulty but demand speed.

Quantitative and Numerical Ability: arithmetic (percentages, ratio, averages, profit and loss, interest, time and work, speed and distance), algebra, number systems, geometry and mensuration, and data interpretation from tables and charts.
Reasoning and General Intelligence: series, analogies, coding-decoding, blood relations, directions, syllogisms, seating and scheduling puzzles, and data sufficiency.
Proficiency in English: reading comprehension, grammar and error correction, vocabulary (synonyms, antonyms, idioms), sentence completion and para jumbles.

NPAT result and admission

NMIMS publishes NPAT merit lists program by program and campus by campus after the testing window closes. Your rank depends on your best NPAT score among the programs you applied to.

There is no separate interview for most NPAT programs; admission offers follow the merit list and seat availability, and you confirm a seat by paying the fee within the given deadline. Keep your Class 12 marksheet ready, because the offer is provisional until you prove you meet eligibility.

How to prepare for NPAT

NPAT is a speed test with no penalty for guessing. Your goal is to answer all 120 questions accurately in 100 minutes, with every blank filled before time runs out.

Split your preparation evenly. Each section carries 40 marks, so a weak section costs as much as a strong one gains.
In quant, learn fast methods for percentages, ratios and averages. These appear across arithmetic and data interpretation questions.
For reasoning, practice puzzles and seating arrangements under a timer, and learn to skip a long set and come back later.
For English, read one long article a day and practice grammar error questions, which can be solved quickly once you know the rules.
Take full-length 100-minute mocks at least twice a week in the last month. Track attempts and accuracy for each section. You can record these mock scores in Kosuki to see trends over time.
Book your first attempt early in the window. That leaves room for retakes if the first score is lower than you want.

How to apply for NPAT

Register on the official NPAT website with your email and mobile number.
Fill in your personal and academic details and upload documents if asked.
Choose your programs and campuses.
Pay the application fee online.
Book your test date, time slot and center.
Download the admit card or slot confirmation and carry valid ID on test day.
Book a retake if you want to improve your score, then check the merit lists when they are published.

Is there negative marking in NPAT?

No. NPAT has no negative marking, so attempt every question.

How many times can I take NPAT?

Is there an interview after NPAT?
