What is the AIIMS B.Sc Nursing entrance?
AIIMS runs its own entrance for the B.Sc (Hons) Nursing course instead of using NEET UG. One test covers seats at AIIMS New Delhi and a number of newer AIIMS, such as those at Bhopal, Jodhpur, Patna, Raipur, Bathinda and others that offer the course in a given year.
The course is known for strong clinical training in large teaching hospitals and low fees. AIIMS also conducts a separate test for the B.Sc Nursing (Post Basic) course, which is meant for candidates who already hold a nursing diploma. This guide is about the B.Sc (Hons) entrance for Class 12 students.
AIIMS B.Sc Nursing eligibility
These points summarize the eligibility in recent prospectuses. Read the prospectus for your year, since seat and gender rules can differ by institute.
- Age: at least 17 years on December 31 of the admission year.
- Qualifying exam: Class 12 (10+2) or equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
- Minimum marks: 55 percent aggregate in English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology for General, OBC and EWS candidates, and 50 percent for SC and ST candidates.
- Nationality: Indian citizens and OCI candidates, subject to the prospectus rules.
- Class 12 appearing students can usually apply, provided they meet the marks requirement by admission time.

In recent years the AIIMS B.Sc Nursing exam pattern has been 100 multiple-choice questions, with Physics, Chemistry and Biology carrying most of the paper and a short General Knowledge section. There are no sectional time limits, so you can move between subjects freely.

AIIMS B.Sc Nursing syllabus
The syllabus follows Class 11 and 12 science. NCERT textbooks are the best base for Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- Physics: motion, laws of motion, work and energy, gravitation, properties of matter, heat, waves, electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics
- Chemistry: basic concepts, atomic structure, bonding, states of matter, solutions, equilibrium, electrochemistry, organic chemistry basics, biomolecules
- Biology: diversity of life, cell biology, plant physiology, human physiology, genetics, reproduction, ecology, biotechnology, human health and disease
- General Knowledge: current affairs, Indian history and geography, basic science and health awareness
AIIMS B.Sc Nursing result and seat allocation
AIIMS publishes the result as a merit list with ranks. Seats at the participating AIIMS are then allotted through online counseling rounds run by AIIMS, based on rank, category and your order of preference. An open round is often held at the end to fill vacant seats.
Selected candidates also undergo document verification and a medical fitness check at the allotted institute. Keep your Class 10 and 12 marksheets, category certificate and identity documents ready.
How to prepare for AIIMS B.Sc Nursing
The paper is short and direct. Scoring well is mainly about solid NCERT knowledge and careful attempts.
Since the exam has only 100 questions, a gap of a few marks can separate hundreds of ranks. Plan to finish the syllabus two to three months before the exam, then spend the remaining time on revision and timed practice. Many students also prepare for NEET UG in the same year, which works well because the science syllabus overlaps almost completely. Just add GK practice and a few AIIMS-style mocks.
- Read NCERT Biology thoroughly. Human physiology, genetics and reproduction are high-yield for nursing entrances.
- In Chemistry, focus on basic physical chemistry calculations and NCERT inorganic and organic facts.
- In Physics, practice formula-based questions from mechanics, electricity and optics.
- Spend 15 to 20 minutes a day on current affairs and general science for the GK section.
- Solve previous AIIMS nursing papers and take timed 100-question mocks on a computer.
- Attempt only when you are fairly sure or can eliminate two options, given the minus 1/3 penalty.
- Keep a record of your mock scores, for example in Kosuki, to see which subject is holding you back.
