JCECE (Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the Jharkhand Combined Entrance Competitive Examination Board (JCECEB). In its current form it is used for admission to agriculture and allied courses in Jharkhand, such as B.Sc Agriculture, BVSc and AH, fisheries, forestry, horticulture, agricultural engineering and dairy technology.

The exam is open to local or permanent residents of Jharkhand. Engineering, pharmacy, nursing and paramedical admissions in Jharkhand run through other exams or processes, so check that JCECE covers the course you want. What is JCECE?

JCECEB runs several entrance tests every year. The one called JCECE is now focused on agriculture and allied degree courses offered by Jharkhand’s state institutions. Based on the 2026 information bulletin, the courses are B.V.Sc and A.H., B.Sc (Hons) Agriculture, Forestry and Horticulture, B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering and Dairy Technology, and B.F.Sc (fisheries).

You apply under a subject group: PCM, PCB or PCMB. The group decides which papers you sit and which courses you can choose later. PCMB students write all four subjects and become eligible for the full course list.

JCECE eligibility

These points are based on the 2026 information bulletin. Confirm them in the bulletin for your year.

• Domicile: you must be a local or permanent resident of Jharkhand.
• Qualifying exam: Intermediate in Science (10+2) or equivalent with the subjects required for the course.
• Course and group match: BVSc, Agriculture and Fisheries need PCB or PCMB; Agricultural Engineering and Dairy Technology need PCM or PCMB; Forestry and Horticulture accept PCM, PCB or PCMB.
• Age: in 2026, BVSc applicants had to be between 17 and 25, and other courses between 17 and 22, with 5 years of relaxation for SC, ST and OBC.
• Minimum marks: the 2026 bulletin listed 50 percent aggregate in the qualifying subjects for General candidates and 47.5 percent for SC and ST candidates. Check the bulletin for any course-specific rules.

JCECE exam pattern

JCECE is an objective, pen-and-paper test. Each subject has 50 multiple-choice questions with four options and a single correct answer. In the 2026 schedule, Biology came first in a 1-hour slot, then Physics and Chemistry together in a 2-hour slot, and Mathematics last in a 1-hour slot, all on the same day. You sit only the slots for your group.

JCECE marking scheme

The JCECE marking scheme is simple, but the negative marking is real. Four wrong answers wipe out one correct answer.

• Correct answer: plus 1 mark
• Wrong answer: minus 0.25 mark
• No response: 0
• If the Hindi and English versions differ, the English version is treated as final

JCECE syllabus

The JCECE syllabus covers Class 11 and 12 science. The board publishes the detailed syllabus in the bulletin, and it lines up closely with NCERT and Jharkhand Academic Council textbooks.

• Physics: units and measurement, kinematics, laws of motion, work and energy, gravitation, thermodynamics, oscillations, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics
• Chemistry: atomic structure, bonding, states of matter, equilibrium, electrochemistry, kinetics, periodic properties, coordination compounds, hydrocarbons, organic reactions, biomolecules
• Biology: diversity of life, cell biology, plant and human physiology, genetics, reproduction, evolution, ecology, biotechnology
• Mathematics: sets and functions, algebra, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, calculus, vectors, 3D geometry, probability

JCECE result, merit list and counseling

JCECEB publishes a merit list or rank card after evaluation. Seats are then filled through online counseling on a merit-cum-choice basis. You register, choose courses and colleges in order of preference, and receive an allotment based on your rank, category and seat availability.

Veterinary, agriculture and fisheries seats are limited, so the rank you need can be high. Keep your domicile, caste and Class 10 and 12 documents ready, because they are checked during counseling.

How to prepare for JCECE

JCECE gives you roughly 72 seconds per question, which is generous compared with many entrance tests. That time is best spent on accuracy, because the minus 0.25 penalty adds up over 150 or 200 questions.

• Cover NCERT Class 11 and 12 fully in each subject of your group. Most questions are direct and concept based.
• PCB students aiming for BVSc or Agriculture should give Biology extra time, since it has its own 1-hour slot and many students lose marks there.
• Practice the actual slot structure: a 1-hour Biology paper (for PCB and PCMB), a 2-hour combined Physics and Chemistry paper, and a 1-hour Mathematics paper (for PCM and PCMB).
• Solve JCECE previous year papers from the board’s website or guide books to see repeated topics.
• Attempt a question if you can rule out two options. With a one-in-four penalty, informed guesses usually pay off, and blind guesses do not.
• Take full mocks every week and note subject-wise scores, for example in Kosuki, to decide what to revise next.

How to apply for JCECE

1. Check jceceb.jharkhand.gov.in for the information bulletin for agriculture and allied courses.
2. Register online and choose your subject group carefully.
3. Fill in personal, academic and domicile details, and upload a photo and signature.
4. Pay the application fee online and print the confirmation page.
5. Download the admit card from the board’s admit card page before the exam.
