GUJCET, the Gujarat Common Entrance Test, is the state entrance exam for engineering and pharmacy degree admissions in Gujarat. It is conducted by the Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSEB), and your GUJCET score is combined with your Class 12 marks to build the merit list used by the Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) for B.E., B.Tech and B.Pharm seats.

The paper is short on marks but long on questions: 120 multiple-choice questions, one mark each, with a quarter-mark penalty for wrong answers. What is GUJCET?

GUJCET is a state-level test for students finishing Class 12 science. It is used by Gujarat’s admission committees to rank candidates for engineering and pharmacy seats in government, grant-in-aid and self-financed colleges in the state.

Unlike exams that decide admission on the entrance score alone, GUJCET is one half of the picture. Your Class 12 theory marks in the relevant subjects count too, so steady board preparation and GUJCET preparation go hand in hand.

GUJCET eligibility

You can take GUJCET if you have passed or are appearing for Class 12 science from GSEB or an equivalent board. The subject group you choose decides which courses you can later apply for.

Group A (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) is the route to engineering.
Group B (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) is the route to pharmacy.
Group AB (all four subjects) keeps both options open.
GSEB does not set an upper age limit for the test.
For ACPC admission, education portals report a minimum aggregate of about 45 percent in the relevant Class 12 subjects (about 40 percent for reserved categories). Confirm the current rule in the ACPC admission booklet.

GUJCET exam pattern

The GUJCET exam pattern splits the test into two sittings on the same day. Physics and Chemistry come together in one combined paper. Mathematics and Biology are separate papers, and you take the one (or both) that matches your group.

All questions are objective multiple-choice questions answered on an OMR sheet.

GUJCET marking scheme

Every question carries equal weight, which makes accuracy on easy questions very valuable.

Correct answer: +1 mark
Wrong answer: minus 0.25 mark
Unanswered question: 0 marks
Four wrong answers cancel one right answer, so random guessing rarely helps, but eliminating two options first usually makes a guess worthwhile.

GUJCET syllabus

The GUJCET syllabus follows the Class 12 science curriculum of GSEB, which is based on NCERT textbooks. In recent years the questions have come from the Class 12 portion rather than Class 11, but check the syllabus notice released with each year’s notification.

Physics: electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, electromagnetic induction and AC, optics, dual nature of matter, atoms and nuclei, semiconductors.
Chemistry: solutions, electrochemistry, chemical kinetics, d- and f-block elements, coordination compounds, haloalkanes, alcohols and phenols, aldehydes and ketones, amines, biomolecules.
Mathematics: relations and functions, inverse trigonometry, matrices and determinants, continuity and differentiability, applications of derivatives, integrals, differential equations, vectors, 3D geometry, linear programming, probability.
Biology: reproduction, genetics and evolution, biology in human welfare, biotechnology, ecology.

GUJCET result and merit list

GSEB publishes GUJCET results as marks and a percentile. The percentile is what feeds into admission merit, together with your Class 12 theory marks in the relevant subjects.

The exact weightage between board marks and GUJCET is decided by the admission committee. For engineering in recent years, ACPC gave 50 percent weight to Class 12 theory marks and 50 percent to the GUJCET percentile. Check the current ACPC rules before you plan around a formula.

Colleges accepting the GUJCET score include government, grant-in-aid and self-financed engineering and pharmacy colleges in Gujarat that fill seats through ACPC. You must register separately with ACPC; the GUJCET result alone does not allot a seat.

How to prepare for GUJCET

GUJCET rewards clean fundamentals and speed. You have about 90 seconds per question and every mark counts the same, so the goal is to answer many straightforward NCERT-level questions correctly without careless slips.

Because board marks also count, build your preparation on the Class 12 textbooks first and add MCQ practice on top.

Read every NCERT Class 12 chapter line by line; many GUJCET questions test definitions, formulas and textbook facts directly.
Split the 120-minute Physics and Chemistry paper evenly, then return to skipped questions in the last 15 minutes.
Practice with an OMR sheet so bubbling does not eat into your time.
Solve previous GUJCET papers to learn the question style, then take timed full-length mocks every week in the final two months.
Keep a list of wrong answers from mocks and review it weekly. You can log mock scores and chapter progress in Kosuki to see which subject needs attention.
Guess only when you can rule out at least two options.

How to apply for GUJCET

Visit gujcet.gseb.org when the notification is released.
Register with your mobile number and email and create a password.
Fill in personal details, Class 12 details, group (A, B or AB), exam language and preferred district.
Upload your photo and signature in the required format.
Pay the application fee online and save the confirmation page.
Download the admit card when it is released and check every detail.

GUJCET FAQs

Is there negative marking in GUJCET?

Yes. Each correct answer gets 1 mark and each wrong answer loses 0.25 mark. Unanswered questions get zero.

How many questions are there in GUJCET?

There are 120 questions for each candidate: 40 each in Physics and Chemistry, plus 40 in Mathematics or Biology. Group AB candidates also take the extra paper.

Is GUJCET based on Class 11 or Class 12?

In recent years GUJCET has followed the GSEB Class 12 science syllabus, which is based on NCERT. Check the syllabus published with the latest notification.

In which languages can I write GUJCET?

You can choose English, Hindi or Gujarati when you apply.

Is GUJCET needed for B.Pharm in Gujarat?

Yes. Pharmacy admissions through ACPC use GUJCET along with Class 12 marks. Choose Group B or AB when applying.

How is the GUJCET merit list prepared?

Your GUJCET percentile is combined with your Class 12 theory marks in the relevant subjects. The admission committee sets the weightage each year; recently it has been 50:50 for engineering.
