TG PGECET, the Telangana Post Graduate Engineering Common Entrance Test (earlier called TS PGECET), is the state entrance exam for postgraduate engineering, pharmacy and architecture courses in Telangana. It is conducted by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH) on behalf of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), and it leads to M.E., M.Tech, M.Pharm, M.Arch and Pharm.D (Post Baccalaureate) admissions.

You take one computer-based paper in your own discipline. The paper has 120 questions, no negative marking, and a qualifying mark of 25 percent. What is TG PGECET?

TG PGECET is how graduates without a GATE or GPAT score, and many with one, compete for postgraduate seats in Telangana’s university colleges and affiliated private colleges.

The exam was called TS PGECET until the state’s abbreviation changed from TS to TG. The test itself and its purpose have stayed the same.

TG PGECET eligibility

You need a bachelor’s degree in the relevant discipline: B.E. or B.Tech for engineering papers, B.Pharm for pharmacy, B.Arch for architecture, or an equivalent qualification listed in the notification.
Final-year students can usually apply, provided they complete the degree by the date the notification sets.

Local and non-local status under Telangana admission rules affects seat allotment, not eligibility to write the test.

Wrong or unanswered question: 0 marks
Qualifying mark: 25 percent, which is 30 out of 120.
SC and ST candidates have no minimum qualifying mark.
Because there is no penalty, you should answer every question.

TG PGECET syllabus

Each paper follows the core undergraduate syllabus of its discipline, closely matching GATE in scope, along with some engineering mathematics. The official site publishes a separate syllabus for every paper.

Commonly chosen papers include Computer Science and Information Technology, Electronics and Communication, Electrical, Mechanical, Civil, Chemical and Pharmacy. Before you register, download the syllabus for your paper and match it to your degree subjects.

If your degree fits more than one paper, pick the one whose syllabus overlaps most with what you studied in your final two years. Seats in each M.E. or M.Tech specialization are open only to candidates from the linked papers, so check the eligibility table for the specializations you want before you register.

TG PGECET result, GATE priority and counseling

Results are published as scores and ranks for each paper. Only those who reach the qualifying mark are ranked.

GATE and GPAT qualified candidates get first claim on seats. Seats left after admitting them are filled using TG PGECET ranks. If you hold a valid GATE or GPAT score you still register for PGECET counseling, but you apply through the GATE/GPAT category.

Counseling is conducted online by the admissions authority, with certificate verification, web options and seat allotment by rank, category and local status. Colleges accepting the TG PGECET score include JNTUH and Osmania University colleges and many affiliated private engineering and pharmacy colleges in Telangana.

How to prepare for TG PGECET

With no negative marking and one mark per question, TG PGECET is a breadth test. You gain most by covering the full syllabus at a steady level rather than going very deep on a few topics.

Two hours for 120 questions gives you one minute per question, so keep long derivations for the end.

Start from your degree notes and the official paper syllabus; mark topics you have not studied in college.
Use GATE preparation material for your branch, but focus on concept and short numerical questions rather than the hardest problems.
Revise engineering mathematics; it appears across engineering papers and is quick to score.
Solve previous PGECET papers to see which subjects appear most in your branch.

How to apply for TG PGECET

Visit pgecet.tgche.ac.in when the notification is out, usually in early spring.
Pay the registration fee online first, then fill in the application form.
Choose your paper carefully; it must match your qualifying degree.
Upload your photo and signature and choose a test center.
