TJEE, the Tripura Joint Entrance Examination, is the state entrance test for engineering and several science-based professional courses in Tripura. It is conducted by the Tripura Board of Joint Entrance Examination (TBJEE), and your TJEE rank is used for state counseling to B.Tech and allied degree seats in Tripura’s colleges.

The exam covers Physics, Chemistry and either Mathematics or Biology, with multiple-choice questions and negative marking. What is TJEE?

TJEE is Tripura’s own joint entrance test. It lets students of the state compete for seats in state engineering, agriculture and allied colleges without depending only on national exams.

The board that runs it, TBJEE, also publishes the rank lists and conducts counseling. Many students take TJEE alongside JEE Main or NEET to keep more options open.

TJEE eligibility

The conditions below are drawn from recent notices. The information bulletin for your year is the final word.

You must be an Indian citizen and a permanent resident of Tripura, usually shown with a Permanent Resident of Tripura Certificate (PRTC).
You must have passed, or be appearing in, Class 12 in the science stream.
For engineering you need Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics; for biology-based courses you need Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
Portals report a minimum aggregate of about 45 percent for general candidates and 40 percent for reserved categories in the relevant subjects at the admission stage.
Some courses carry extra conditions, such as subject or age rules, listed in the bulletin for that year.

TJEE exam pattern

In the TJEE exam pattern each subject has 30 questions. You choose your group when you apply: the Mathematics group for engineering, the Biology group for biology-based courses, or both if you want to keep both routes open. Portals describe Physics and Chemistry being written in a longer first sitting and Mathematics and Biology in shorter separate sittings; your admit card shows the exact timings.

All questions are multiple-choice with one correct option, answered on an OMR sheet. Erasers and whitener are not allowed on the sheet.

Correct answer: +4 marks

A three-subject group totals 360 marks; candidates who take all four subjects are scored out of 480.
Because each subject has only 30 questions, a few careless errors move your rank noticeably.

TJEE syllabus

The TJEE syllabus follows the Class 11 and 12 curriculum, in line with NCERT and the Tripura Board of Secondary Education. The board publishes a subject-wise syllabus with its bulletin.

Physics: mechanics, gravitation, properties of matter, heat and thermodynamics, waves, electrostatics, current electricity, magnetism, optics, modern physics.
Chemistry: atomic structure, bonding, states of matter, thermodynamics, equilibrium, periodic properties, inorganic families, organic basics, hydrocarbons, functional groups, biomolecules.
Mathematics: algebra, trigonometry, coordinate geometry, calculus, vectors, 3D geometry, matrices and determinants, probability.
Biology: diversity of life, cell biology, plant and human physiology, reproduction, genetics and evolution, ecology, biotechnology.

TJEE result, ranks and counseling

TBJEE usually releases an answer key after the exam and then publishes results with separate merit lists for the engineering and biology groups. Your rank card shows the list you appear in.

Counseling is held by TBJEE after the result. You register, verify documents including your PRTC, choose courses and colleges, and seats are allotted by rank. Colleges accepting the TJEE score include Tripura Institute of Technology and other state engineering, agriculture and allied colleges named in each year’s counseling notice.

How to prepare for TJEE

With only 30 questions per subject, every question is worth more than in larger exams. Accuracy matters more than finishing fast.

The syllabus is board level, so a student preparing seriously for Class 12 is already most of the way there. Add MCQ practice and timed papers.

Finish NCERT Class 11 and 12 books fully; TJEE questions often test standard results and textbook concepts.
Practice sets of 30 questions under a timer so the paper length feels familiar.
Attempt a question only when you can rule out at least two options; four marks gained against one lost still rewards careful guessing, not blind guessing.
Solve previous TJEE papers to learn which chapters appear often.
If you are taking both groups, schedule separate revision days for Mathematics and Biology so neither slips. You can track chapter progress in Kosuki.
Rehearse filling OMR sheets without corrections, since erasing is not allowed.

How to apply for TJEE

Visit the TBJEE website when the notification is released, usually early in the year.
Register and fill in personal, academic and residency details.
Choose your group (engineering, biology or both) and exam center.
Upload your photo, signature and documents as instructed.
Pay the fee online and save the confirmation page.
Download your admit card before the exam and check the paper timings printed on it.

TJEE FAQs

Is there negative marking in TJEE?

Yes. You get 4 marks for a correct answer and lose 1 mark for a wrong one. Unanswered questions get zero.

What is the difference between TBJEE and TJEE?

TBJEE is the board that conducts the exam. TJEE is the exam itself, the Tripura Joint Entrance Examination.

Can I write TJEE in Bengali?

Yes. The question papers have been available in English and Bengali.

Can students from outside Tripura apply for TJEE?

TJEE is meant for permanent residents of Tripura, and a PRTC is required. Students from other states should use national exams.

Is TJEE conducted online?

No. It is a pen-and-paper test with OMR answer sheets.

Can I take both Mathematics and Biology in TJEE?

Yes. You can choose both groups and answer all four subjects, which makes you eligible for both engineering and biology-based courses.
