IBSAT (IBS Aptitude Test) is the admission test for the MBA and PGPM programs at the ICFAI Business School (IBS) campuses. It is conducted by the ICFAI Foundation for Higher Education, and the score is used to shortlist candidates for a group discussion and personal interview at IBS.

The test has 140 questions in 2 hours, no negative marking, and is taken online with remote proctoring. This guide explains the IBSAT exam pattern, syllabus, eligibility and marking scheme, and how to prepare for it.

What is IBSAT?

IBSAT is the entry test for full-time management programs at IBS, which has campuses in cities such as Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Gurgaon, Kolkata, Pune, Ahmedabad, Jaipur and Dehradun. When you apply, you choose the campuses you want to be considered for.

The test is held across several weekend dates in a single window, and you pick one slot. It is a general aptitude test, so the same preparation you do for CAT or other MBA tests also helps here.

IBSAT eligibility

• A bachelor’s degree in any discipline with at least 50 percent aggregate marks, from a recognized university.
• IBS has asked that candidates studied English as a subject or as the medium of instruction at earlier levels; check the current admission notice for the exact rule.
• Final-year students can apply, provided they complete their degree before the program starts.
• There is no upper age limit.

IBSAT exam pattern

The IBSAT exam pattern has 140 multiple-choice questions in four sections. There is no sectional time limit, so you can move between sections freely in the 120 minutes. Questions usually have five answer options rather than four.

Verbal Ability is the largest section, which makes IBSAT more language-heavy than many MBA tests.

IBSAT marking scheme

• One mark for each correct answer.
• No negative marking for wrong answers.
• No marks for unattempted questions.
• The result is reported as a score and percentile, which IBS uses for shortlisting.

IBSAT syllabus

The IBSAT syllabus covers standard aptitude topics. Verbal and reading sections together make up 80 of the 140 questions, so English skills matter more than in most MBA exams.

• Verbal Ability: synonyms and antonyms, analogies, sentence correction, fill in the blanks, para jumbles and vocabulary in context.
• Reading Comprehension: several passages on business, economics, science and social themes, with main idea, inference and tone questions.
• Quantitative Aptitude: number system, percentages, profit and loss, ratio, interest, averages, time and work, time-speed-distance, algebra, geometry and mensuration.
• Data Adequacy and Data Interpretation: data sufficiency questions and data sets based on tables, bar charts, line graphs and pie charts.

IBSAT result and selection process

The IBSAT result is usually announced online in January. Your score is only the first step. IBS then invites shortlisted candidates for a group discussion and personal interview, generally held on its campuses in the early months of the year.

Final admission is based on your IBSAT score, the group discussion and interview, and your academic record. Colleges accepting the IBSAT score are mainly the IBS campuses themselves, along with a few other institutes that list it among accepted tests. IBS has also accepted scores from some other national tests in past cycles, so check the admission notice if you have one of those scores.

How to prepare for IBSAT

IBSAT preparation should put language first. With 80 questions in verbal and reading, a strong reading habit can decide your score. Read editorials and long-form articles daily, and practice at least two comprehension passages a day under a timer.

With no negative marking and no sectional limit, attempt every question and move quickly past time-consuming ones. Because the test is remote proctored, practice mocks on the same laptop and setup you will use on the day. You can track your mock scores and preparation status in Kosuki.

• Build vocabulary through reading rather than word lists alone, as questions test usage in context.
• Practice data adequacy (data sufficiency) regularly, since the format is unfamiliar to many students.
• Keep quant practice focused on arithmetic, which forms most of the section.
• Aim to finish verbal questions quickly to save time for data interpretation sets.
• Check your webcam, microphone, internet and room setup well before your slot, and follow the proctoring rules closely.

1. Visit the official IBSAT website and register with your email and mobile number.
2. Fill in the application with your academic details and choose your preferred IBS campuses.
3. Upload a photograph and signature.
4. Pay the application fee online.
5. Book your test date and time slot from the available windows.
6. Complete the system check and download the admit card before your test.
