IPMAT Indore (Integrated Programme in Management Aptitude Test) is the entrance test for the five-year Integrated Programme in Management (IPM) at IIM Indore. IIM Indore conducts the test, and students who clear it and the interview earn a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the institute.

It is one of the few IIM entry routes open right after class 12. This guide covers the IPMAT Indore exam pattern, syllabus, eligibility, marking scheme and selection process, and how to prepare for a test with strict sectional timing.

What is IPMAT Indore?

IPMAT Indore is the aptitude test for IIM Indore’s five-year program for school-leavers. The first three years build foundations in management, economics, mathematics and humanities. The last two years follow the MBA curriculum. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Arts (Foundations of Management) and an MBA.

IIM Rohtak runs its own separate IPMAT with a different pattern, and some other IIMs use JIPMAT. This guide is only about the IIM Indore test.

IPMAT Indore eligibility

The IPMAT eligibility rules below are from IIM Indore’s admission procedure for the 2026 batch. Always check the latest document before applying, as the rules can be revised.

• Age: born on or after August 1, 2006 for the 2026 batch, with a five-year relaxation for SC, ST and PwD candidates.
• Education: passed class 12 or equivalent in 2024 or 2025, or appearing in 2026. Class 10 must also be passed.
• Percentages in class 10 and 12 are calculated on the aggregate of all subjects. Check the current document for any minimum.
• Students from any stream (science, commerce or arts) can apply.
• Reservation follows central government rules for NC-OBC, SC, ST, EWS and PwD candidates.

IPMAT Indore exam pattern

The IPMAT Indore exam pattern has three sections, each with a fixed 40-minute window. You must attempt them in the given order and cannot switch back to an earlier section. There are 90 questions in total, all carrying 4 marks.

The Short Answer section has no options. You type the numerical answer yourself.

IPMAT Indore marking scheme

• Plus 4 marks for each correct answer in every section.
• Minus 1 mark for each wrong answer in the two MCQ sections.
• No negative marking in the Quantitative Ability (Short Answer) section.
• No marks for unattempted questions.
• Candidates need a positive overall raw score and must clear minimum sectional cut-offs set by the Admissions Committee to be shortlisted for the interview.

IPMAT syllabus

The IPMAT syllabus is not officially listed, but the questions draw on class 10 to 12 mathematics and English.

• Quantitative Ability: number system, algebra, quadratic equations, progressions, logarithms, functions, permutations and combinations, probability, geometry, mensuration, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, matrices and determinants, and arithmetic topics such as percentages, ratios and time and work.
• Short Answer questions use the same topics but need an exact numerical answer.
• Verbal Ability: reading comprehension, vocabulary, fill in the blanks, sentence correction, para jumbles, and odd sentence out.

IPMAT result and selection process

After the test, IIM Indore shortlists candidates who clear the sectional cut-offs for a personal interview. The final merit list uses a composite score: 65 percent weight to the aptitude test score and 35 percent to the personal interview, as per the 2026 admission procedure. Within the aptitude test score, Verbal Ability carries half the weight and each quant section a quarter.

Colleges accepting IPMAT Indore score have included several other institutes for their integrated or BBA programs, such as, in recent years, IIM Ranchi’s integrated program, T.A. Pai Management Institute, the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and Nirma University. The list changes, so check each institute’s admission page.

How to prepare for IPMAT Indore

IPMAT preparation must respect the fixed sectional timing. Each section gets exactly 40 minutes, so you cannot borrow time from a strong section. Practice each section as a separate timed block, and then as a full 120-minute paper.

Treat the two quant sections differently. In the MCQ section, a wrong answer costs 1 mark, so guess only when you can rule out options. In the Short Answer section there is no penalty, so enter an answer for every question you have worked on. Verbal Ability carries the most marks, with 45 questions in 40 minutes, so reading speed matters. You can track your sectional mock scores in Kosuki to see where your cut-off risk lies.

• Revise class 11 and 12 algebra, since IPMAT quant goes beyond arithmetic.
• Solve previous IPMAT Indore papers to learn the difficulty of the Short Answer section.
• Read daily and practice comprehension passages at a steady pace of under a minute per question.
• Aim for safe scores in all three sections before chasing a very high score in one, because sectional cut-offs apply.
• Prepare for the interview early by reading news and thinking through why you want to study management.

1. Visit the IIM Indore admissions portal when the IPM application window opens.
2. Register and fill in your personal, class 10 and class 12 details.
3. Upload a photograph, signature and any category certificates.
4. Pay the application fee online.
5. Choose your preferred test cities.
6. Download the admit card and read the test-day instructions.
