JEECUP is the Uttar Pradesh polytechnic entrance exam, officially called the Uttar Pradesh Joint Entrance Examination (Polytechnic), or UPJEE(P). It is conducted by the Joint Entrance Examination Council, Uttar Pradesh, whose short name JEECUP is how most students know the exam. It is the route into diploma programs at government, aided and private polytechnics in the state, from engineering diplomas after Class 10 to pharmacy, management and lateral entry courses.

Most candidates take Group A, the engineering and technology group for Class 10 pass students. Its paper has 100 multiple-choice questions for 400 marks, taken as a computer-based test. Your rank is then used in online counseling for seat allotment.

What is JEECUP?

JEECUP is often called the UP Polytechnic exam. It is a single application for many diploma programs, organized into groups. Each group has its own eligibility and paper. You can apply for more than one group if you meet the conditions.

Group A covers engineering and technology diplomas such as civil, mechanical, electrical, electronics and computer science. Other groups cover agricultural engineering, fashion and textile design, pharmacy, management, hotel management, postgraduate diplomas, and lateral entry into the second year of engineering diplomas for Class 12 or ITI candidates.

JEECUP eligibility

Eligibility depends on the group. The rules for the most common groups are below; the information brochure gives the full list.

• Group A (engineering and technology): passed Class 10 with Mathematics and Science, usually with a minimum of 35 percent marks. Students appearing in Class 10 can also apply.
• Pharmacy groups: Class 12 with Physics and Chemistry, plus Biology or Mathematics.
• Lateral entry groups (K1 to K8): Class 12 in a relevant stream or a two-year ITI in a related trade, for admission to the second year.
• Postgraduate diploma and management groups: a relevant graduate degree.
• Candidates should check domicile rules, as most seats are for Uttar Pradesh residents.

JEECUP exam pattern

The JEECUP exam pattern for Group A is a single computer-based paper. Mathematics carries half the questions, and Physics and Chemistry share the other half.

JEECUP marking scheme

• Each correct answer earns 4 marks.
• In recent cycles there has been no negative marking for wrong or unattempted answers, so attempt every question. Confirm this in the current brochure.
• With 100 questions in 150 minutes, you have about 90 seconds per question.
• Other groups have different subject papers but a similar objective format.

JEECUP syllabus

The Group A syllabus follows Class 10 level Science and Mathematics, broadly in line with the UP Board and NCERT books.

• Mathematics: real numbers, polynomials, pair of linear equations, quadratic equations, arithmetic progressions, triangles, coordinate geometry, trigonometry and its applications, circles, areas and volumes, statistics and probability.
• Physics: light (reflection and refraction), the human eye, electricity, magnetic effects of current, sources of energy, and basics of motion, force and work from Class 9.
• Chemistry: chemical reactions and equations, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, carbon and its compounds, and periodic classification of elements.

JEECUP result, counseling and admission

The Council releases the answer key, then the JEECUP result with group-wise ranks. Qualified candidates take part in online counseling, which usually has several rounds.

In counseling, you register, fill institute and branch choices, and lock them. Seats are allotted on rank, category and choices. After allotment, you choose to accept and freeze the seat or float to later rounds, pay the seat fee, and verify documents. Government polytechnics fill quickly, so fill a wide range of choices.

How to prepare for JEECUP

Group A is a Class 10 level paper where Mathematics decides most ranks. The difference between candidates is speed and accuracy on familiar topics.

• Finish the Class 10 NCERT Mathematics book, including all examples and exercises. Give it half of your study time.
• In Physics, focus on electricity and light; these chapters produce many numerical questions.
• In Chemistry, learn reactions, pH, metals and non-metals and carbon compounds by writing equations by hand.
• Solve previous JEECUP papers to understand the level. Many questions are direct and formula-based.
• Take computer-based mock tests to get used to navigating the screen and managing 150 minutes.
• Since there has been no negative marking recently, practice finishing all 100 questions. Log each mock score in a tracker such as Kosuki to see steady progress.

How to apply for JEECUP

1. Download the information brochure from the official JEECUP website and check the groups you are eligible for.
2. Register online and fill in personal, academic and category details.
3. Choose one or more groups and preferred exam districts.
4. Upload a photograph and signature, and pay the fee for each group online.
5. Print the confirmation page and download the admit card when released.
