TG POLYCET, earlier called TS POLYCET, is the Telangana Polytechnic Common Entrance Test. The State Board of Technical Education and Training, Telangana, conducts it every year for admission to diploma programs in polytechnics across the state.

It is a pen-and-paper test of 150 multiple-choice questions in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, one mark each, with no negative marking. Candidates get separate ranks for the MPC stream (engineering and technology diplomas) and the MBiPC stream (agriculture and allied diplomas).

What is TG POLYCET?

TG POLYCET is the single entrance for diploma courses in Telangana after Class 10. The MPC rank is used for engineering and technology diplomas in government, aided and private polytechnics. The MBiPC rank is used for diploma programs in agriculture, horticulture, veterinary and related fields offered through the state’s agricultural and veterinary universities.

After a diploma, students can take up technician roles or seek lateral entry into the second year of B.Tech. through a separate entrance.

TG POLYCET eligibility

Passed Class 10 (SSC) or an equivalent exam, or appearing in the current year’s Class 10 exams.
Candidates from equivalent boards usually need to have studied Mathematics and Science.
Local and non-local status for seat allotment follows Telangana admission rules.
Some agriculture and veterinary diplomas have extra conditions, such as age limits or rural study requirements, listed by the offering university.

The TG POLYCET exam pattern is a single question paper. All candidates answer all four subjects. Ranks are then worked out separately for the two streams.

TG POLYCET marking scheme and ranks

Each correct answer earns 1 mark. There is no negative marking.
The MPC rank is based on Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, out of 120.
The MBiPC rank uses Biology, Physics and Chemistry plus half of your Mathematics marks, so it is also out of 120.
To qualify, General and BC candidates need 30 percent, or 36 marks, out of the 120 marks that count for the stream. SC and ST candidates need at least 1 mark.
You receive both ranks from one exam and choose which to use in counseling.

TG POLYCET syllabus

The syllabus follows the Telangana Class 10 (SSC) curriculum. Focus areas include the following.

Mathematics: real numbers, sets, polynomials, pair of linear equations, quadratic equations, progressions, coordinate geometry, similar triangles, tangents and secants, mensuration, trigonometry, statistics and probability.
Physics: reflection and refraction of light, the human eye, electric current, electromagnetism, and heat.
Chemistry: chemical reactions, acids, bases and salts, atomic structure, periodic classification, chemical bonding, metallurgy, and carbon compounds.
Biology: nutrition, respiration, transportation, excretion, coordination, reproduction, heredity, and our environment.

TG POLYCET result, counseling and admission

After the answer key and objections, the TG POLYCET result is released with marks and both stream ranks. Rank cards are downloaded from the official website.

Counseling for polytechnic diplomas is conducted online by the Department of Technical Education. The usual steps are slot booking, certificate verification, web options for colleges and branches, seat allotment, fee payment and self-reporting. Counseling for agriculture and veterinary diplomas is run separately by the universities that offer them.

How to prepare for TG POLYCET

TG POLYCET is a board-level paper where Mathematics carries 60 of the 120 marks that count for the MPC rank. Speed and accuracy on textbook content matter most.

If you want an engineering diploma, put about half your time into Mathematics.
If you want an agriculture or allied diploma, give Biology equal attention, since it drives the MBiPC rank.
Work through your SSC textbooks fully. Most questions are direct and concept-based.
Practice numerical problems in Physics and balance equations and trends in Chemistry.
Solve previous TG POLYCET papers in 2.5-hour sittings on an OMR sheet, attempting all 150 questions.

MPC or MBiPC: which TG POLYCET rank to use

Since one exam gives you two ranks, decide early which path you want. If you enjoy machines, circuits, construction or computers, the MPC rank and an engineering diploma fit. If you are drawn to farming, plants, animals or food, the MBiPC rank opens agriculture, horticulture and veterinary diplomas.

Look at the previous year’s closing ranks for your preferred colleges and branches on the counseling websites. Agriculture and allied diplomas have fewer seats, so a good Biology score can matter a lot. Consider fees, hostel options and distance from home, and fill many choices in order of real preference.

Read the notification on the official POLYCET website.
Pay the registration fee online.
Fill in the application with Class 10 details, category and local status.
Upload a photograph and signature, and choose your exam center.
Submit, print the form and download the hall ticket when released.

Is there negative marking in TG POLYCET?

No. Each correct answer earns 1 mark and wrong answers carry no penalty.

Is TS POLYCET the same as TG POLYCET?

Yes. The exam was renamed from TS POLYCET to TG POLYCET when the state abbreviation changed. The exam itself is the same.

Do I need to write Biology in TG POLYCET?

All candidates get the same 150-question paper. Biology counts toward the MBiPC rank for agriculture and allied diplomas, along with Physics, Chemistry and half of the Mathematics marks. It does not count toward the MPC rank.

What is the qualifying mark in TG POLYCET?

General and BC candidates need 36 out of 120, or 30 percent. SC and ST candidates need at least 1 mark.

Is TG POLYCET an online exam?
