TG ECET (Telangana Engineering Common Entrance Test), known until recently as TS ECET, is the state exam for lateral entry into the second year of BE, BTech and BPharm programs in Telangana. It is conducted by Osmania University on behalf of the Telangana Council of Higher Education (TGCHE), and it is open to diploma holders in engineering and pharmacy and to BSc Mathematics graduates.

The exam is a three-hour online test of 200 multiple-choice questions, with no negative marking. For engineering students, half the paper comes from their own diploma branch. What is TG ECET?

TG ECET is how diploma holders in Telangana move into an engineering or pharmacy degree without repeating the first year. The state renamed its common entrance tests from TS to TG in 2024, so older papers, cut-off lists and forum posts still use the TS ECET name. They refer to the same exam.

Osmania University has conducted the exam in recent cycles, but TGCHE can assign it to a different university in a given year, so always check the official site for the current convener.

TG ECET eligibility

The notification and information brochure set eligibility each year. Recent cycles have followed these rules.

• Engineering and pharmacy streams: a diploma in engineering, technology or pharmacy recognized by the State Board of Technical Education and Training, Telangana, or an equivalent diploma.
• BSc Mathematics stream: a BSc with Mathematics as one of the subjects and a minimum aggregate, usually 45 percent (lower for reserved categories).
• Final-year diploma or degree students can usually apply, provided they pass before admission.
• Telangana local and non-local status rules apply to seat allotment.
• There is no upper age limit.

TG ECET exam pattern

Every paper has 200 objective questions worth 1 mark each, answered online in three hours. The paper is in English. The structure for each stream is shown below.

TG ECET marking scheme and qualifying marks

• Each correct answer earns 1 mark.
• There is no negative marking.
• To be ranked, candidates usually need at least 25 percent of the total, which is 50 out of 200.
• SC and ST candidates have no minimum qualifying mark for ranking.
• Ranks are based on your total score, with tie-break rules set out in the brochure.

TG ECET syllabus

The TG ECET syllabus follows the diploma curriculum of the Telangana State Board of Technical Education and Training. The official site publishes the detailed syllabus for every branch. For engineering students it covers the following areas.

• Mathematics: matrices and determinants, trigonometry, complex numbers, analytical geometry, differentiation and its applications, integration and its applications, differential equations, Laplace transforms and Fourier series.
• Physics: units and dimensions, vectors, kinematics, friction, work, power and energy, simple harmonic motion, heat and thermodynamics, sound, electricity and magnetism, modern physics.
• Chemistry: atomic structure, chemical bonding, solutions, acids and bases, electrochemistry, corrosion, water technology, polymers, fuels, environmental studies.
• Branch paper: core diploma subjects for your branch, such as strength of materials and surveying for civil, or data structures and operating systems for computer engineering.

TG ECET result and counseling

TGCHE and the convening university release the result online as a rank card. You need your hall ticket number and date of birth to download it.

Admission is through web-based counseling run by the Department of Technical Education, Telangana. The usual sequence is online registration and processing fee payment, slot booking for certificate verification, verification, web option entry for colleges and branches, seat allotment, fee payment and reporting to the college. There is usually a final phase and sometimes spot admissions for remaining seats. Your final allotment depends on your rank, category, local status and the order of your options.

How to prepare for TG ECET

The engineering paper gives 100 marks to your branch and 50 to Mathematics, and wrong answers cost nothing. Build your plan around that.

• Revise your diploma branch subjects semester by semester. Focus on definitions, formulas and standard problems, since most branch questions test recall and quick application.
• Practice Mathematics daily. Differentiation, integration and differential equations carry a large share and reward regular practice.
• Cover Physics and Chemistry with short notes. At 25 marks each, they are worth steady revision but not most of your time.
• Solve TS ECET and TG ECET previous papers for your branch. The old TS name will help you find more of them.
• Take full online mock tests with a three-hour timer to build pace for 200 questions.
• Answer every question, as there is no penalty. You can log branch-wise progress and mock scores in Kosuki to see which subjects need another round.

How to apply for TG ECET

1. Read the notification and brochure on ecet.tgche.ac.in.
2. Pay the registration fee online through the portal.
3. Fill in the application form with your qualifying exam details, stream and preferred test center.
4. Upload your photo and signature and submit.
5. Print the filled application form.
6. Download the hall ticket when it is released and check your stream and session.
